A Letter from the CEO

As the year comes to a close, we invite you to join us in a season of generosity and hope. Giving Tuesday and year-end giving are powerful opportunities to help women living with fistula and mothers at risk in childbirth.

Thanks to your support, the Maternal Health Foundation and our partners have built life-saving capacity across Sub-Saharan Africa:

  • 500 women treated with fistula surgery every year at TERREWODE Women’s Community Hospital in Uganda and Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital in Ghana.
  • Thousands of mothers reached through expanded antenatal care (ANC) to detect complications early.
  • Life-saving technology reaching rural health centers, where frontline staff now use ultrasound (POCUS) to identify high-risk pregnancies and refer women for safe delivery.

But the need is still great. Too many women remain trapped in silence, and too many mothers face preventable risks.

Hagar’s Story: Seven Years in Silence, Now Free

For seven years, Hagar lived with the pain and shame of obstetric fistula. She spent all she had searching for a cure, but no solution came.

“I withdrew from my community. These years were hell for me,” she recalls.

Then a nurse told her about the Mankessim Fistula Center. With her husband’s support, Hagar made the call that changed everything.

After successful surgery, she smiles again:
“I no longer leak. I can live my life freely again.”

Stories like Hagar’s remind us why this mission matters. With your help, women can move from suffering and silence to healing and renewed strength.
